We've learned it from school --the mechanics of the ecosystem and the food chain sum up to each individual's survival.
Take this fight between a woodpecker and a snake filmed by Israeli tourist Assaf Admoni while vacationing at the Yarapa river in Peru. The crimson crested woodpecker can be seen repeatedly attacking a 10 ft snake in attempts to drive it away from its nest.
"We think it (the snake) was looking for eggs or chicks and the woodpecker arrived to find it had moved in while she was away" Admoni said. "It really looked like the female was acting frantically out of maternal instinct. She just kept racing up the tree and attacking the snake on its side."
Sad as it may seem, this is one of many instances where nature is taking its course.
