Why Bongbong Marcos is Fit to be Miriam Defensor Santiago's Running Mate and Vice President of the Philippines

Ferdinand Marcos is arguably the most controversial president Philippines has ever had. He is known as the dictator --the only president who had placed the country under martial law.While some believe Marcos is the best president Philippines had by far, some still insist the opposite.

Even before the filing of candidacies ended on October 16, we became aware that Ferdinand Marcos' son, Senator BongBong Marcos, has decided to run for vice president.

We were left to wonder for a few days as to whom his running mate would be. But after Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago declared her presidential bid Thursday, October 15, people were quick to make out the puzzle that it could possibly be the female senator.

But some were not happy about the team up. Many have criticized Senator Santiago for picking a "Marcos" as her running mate --fearing that there might come a time when Marcoses rise to power again.

But should people really be against Senator BongBong only because of the name he carries?

In the 16th Congress (2013 to present), where Senator Marcos stands as chairman of the Senate committee, has already authored 52 bills, one of them already enacted as a law. He also created a better alternative to the original Bangsamoro Basic Law to make it more inclusive and constitutional.

“I do not think that on a family basis, the Marcoses as a family owe us an apology. Times have changed. Your ideologies are different from those of your parents. We always have to adjust with the times,” Senator Santiago said, defending her running mate.

"If the last name of a candidate is your sole metric for your judgment, then you are, by definition, an uneducated voter."
