The Amazing Life : The Stigmata Therese Neumann

Therese Neumann becomes the center of attention at the age of 28, after she has received the stigmata, the manifestation of Christ's wound on her body. They have learned that she has omitted abstinence of food and drink, except the daily intake of the Holy Eucharist



Therese Neumann is born on Good Friday, April 9 1898, in Konnersreuth, Bavaria. She is a daughter of a tailor and the oldest of ten children. She lives in a strict but loving, Christian home. It is at the age of eleven , that she experiences her first extraordinary vision of Jesus Christ. She even thinks that it is normal to have visions like that. Her life is composed of a series of ordeals. She has injured her back while fighting a fire in a neighboring farm and has fell down on the stellar steps at the same time hitting her head on the floor that leads to almost lose her visions. Months later, she injures her back again. These painful experiences have caused her to be completely blind and paralyze her both legs. The life she is living after it, becomes worst and difficult for her. She gives up on her dream of working as a missionary. The help and support of her family has made ​​her to change aspects of life she is seeing. She has devoted herself in prayers and self-offering for the suffering of others.

Therese's life-long devotion to St. Therese of Lisieux has played an important part in her recovery. And the day when Therese of Lisieux is to be proclaimed by the pope as a saint, she offers her prayers that leads on gaining back her sight and miraculously heals her paralyzed leg. After a year of being cured by paralysis, the first stigmata appears. She also experiences physical and mental pain same as Jesus Christ. She proves that man can live by God's invisible light and not by food only. 


She has endless deeds of charity and kindness. Even if she has not seen any visions of Christ, she works hard at home. In the village she cares for the sick and poor. She serves the church with all heart and prayers. Due to cardiac arrest, she rests in peace on September 18, 1962 with the age of 64. Five days after her passing, the doctors have declared that her body shows no sign of decay at all.


A lot may question how she is able to survive years with the abstinence of food and how the stigmata appears.
