Upon announcement of his desire to compete for the highest post on the May 2016 national elections, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has finally submitted his COC (Certificate of Candidacy) on November 27, 2015 as the standard-bearer of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino Lakas ng Bayan at the Commission on Elections’ law department.

"Today, I withdrew the Certificate of Candidacy I filed last October 15 for the position of City Mayor and asked my lawyers in Manila to file my COC for the position of President."
In addition, he accompanied his daughter, Sara Duterte Carpio, who will take his place as candidate for the position of Davao Mayor at the Comelec. It was noted that Sara already has experience in governing the city as she was elected mayor back in 2010.
